Founding and Lead Pastor

Pastor Mike graduated from Gardner-Webb College in 1987 and pursued his Masters in Divinity at Mark Christopher White School of Divinity on the Campus of Gardner-Webb University. Pastor Mike and Jean, his wife, were born in the Yadkin Valley and raised their three children, now adults, in the local community. Together they lead and guide The Compass Worship Church family, along with the support their two sons. They are the proud parents of Carrie, Michael, and Matthew and grandparents of Brian, Morgan, Addison, Emery, and Eleanor. Mike and Jean are well known in the community as owners of the Speedy Chef. Each Sunday, Pastor Mike shares messages based on biblical truths of grace, forgiveness, and salvation. He desires all to know that you are never too lost to begin anew in Jesus Christ.

Worship Leader

Matthew joined the Compass as a founding member during his high school years. He played faithfully as a member of the worship band, growing in his walk with Christ. With a passion for Christ and the gift of music, he obtained his Bachelor's in Religion through Liberty University. His studies allowed him to learn the history of Christianity, the fundamentals of biblical theology, how to apply the essential truths of the Bible in today's world, and what it means to have a Christian worldview. Through the music ministry, he prays to bring the fullness and goodness of the presence of God to those who join us in worship. Matthew also assists in the family restaurant. His wife, Brittany, dogs, Ghost and Hazel, and cat Mr. Kitty are by his side for life's adventures. Brittany works locally as the owner of White Rose Beauty Salon. Matthew and Brittany will welcome a daughter this November!

Joe Walker

Treasurer

Joe Walker is a long time Elkin resident and the business owner of AllStar Rentals. He graduated from Western Piedmont Community College. He is a dedicated volunteer and supporter of the local community and beyond. He serves as chair of the Elkin Tourism Development Authority and is a board member of the Elkin Rescue Squad. He is a founding member of The Compass along with his wife, Cathy who also serves on the board of the Yadkin Valley United Fund. They enjoy time with their 6 children and 13 grandchildren.

Brandi Walker Hall

Web Design and Social Media, Early Childhood and Adult Studies

Brandi serves with her husband Michael as a founding member of the Compass. She received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders at Appalachian State University and her Master of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the Lead Speech Language Pathologist at Elkin City Schools. She adores her children, Emery and Eleanor, and her furry family members including dogs Lucy and Kobe, cats Pete and June, an aquarium of sea creatures, and Flopsy the Holland Lop. She enjoys hikes with her family, reading, and writing.

Michael Hall

Leadership Team Chair

Michael is a founding member of the Compass Worship Church. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University and works as a Supply Chain Manager at Lowes, Inc. He is the proud father of Emery and Eleanor. He enjoys mountain biking with his son and watching Seinfeld re-runs. His resides locally with his wife Brandi, children Emery and Eleanor, and furry family members.
